When Heidi woke the next morning, the sun was shining brightly.
She jumped out of her bed and got dressed. Peter was waiting outside the hut with the herd of goats as Uncle Alp brought Daisy and Dusky from their stall.
‘Do you want to go to the pasture with Peter today?’ he asked Heidi. ‘Yes please Grandfather,’ she said.
Heidi goes to live with her bad-tempered grandfather, Uncle Alp, in his hut on the mountain. Everyone thinks that her stay will make them both unhappy. But Heidi grows to love her new life. Then her aunt Detie arrives and insists that Heidi must go to live with a family in Frankfurt. Heidi and her grandfather are heartbroken.
